It was low profile, I still can park in my garage provided I didn’t have anything on the rack. For sure a day if you are doing it alone as I would recommend taking the top off your Jeep.
RHINO RACK BACKBONE JEEP JK BASKET FULL
I would recommend ensuring you have a solid afternoon to a full day to accomplish this. Most of my issues were straight anxiety on drilling holes, but everything lined up. The instructions were detailed and I had no problems piecing the puzzle together.

The installation of the back bone was quite tedious and did involve me having to roll around on the floor measuring things, but all in all it was a clean install. View of the backbone system inside the Jeep. The good news is it really can be undone, there’s nothing a repair kit cannot fix. This part was stressful for me as I feel like it is something that cannot be undone. The only thing that freaked me out was having to drill holes in the hard top. The cool thing about the Rhino rack Backbone is that there is an integral system that is like a frame inside the hardtop, so it is out of the elements and once I put my headliner on you cannot even tell it’s there. I want to put all sorts of things up there and not have to stress while I am going down the highway. I also wanted to have something in my fiberglass top that supported the rack and pushed the weight down to the rear tub, I did not want to rely solely on my fiberglass top. The Rhino Rack checked that box for sure. It also would be a nightmare to clean, all the tubes and joints blocking the body… the whole thought of it makes me frustrated thinking about detailing my Jeep. I think it looks very silly and also adds a place for trees and bushes to get caught up in while I’m going down tight trails. I didn’t want anything jetting out around the Jeep like a cage. I wanted a low profile look, this was key. Why I decided to chose the Rhino Rack Backbone: Note that the camping couch is on the rack. So my $50.00 couch became an over a thousand dollar investment. After all, everyone knows a two door Jeep some serious space limitations after you put a fridge back there. I wouldn’t always need to have my couch but some space really was starting to become an issue. I decided to pull the trigger and look into a roof rack again. I do not like the fact that it took up a considerable amount of space in my Jeep. It was on sale for $50.00 and it was awesome, it would be the only thing I would consider as less of a necessity for camping but I’m still going to haul this around every chance I get. Last Christmas I decided to buy a camping couch. I never really stopped looking at roof racks but I never really saw the value in the ugly to storage ratio. I did not like the outside frame style racks because they frankly look ugly and It would be too much work if I wanted to drive around topless. I did not like the idea of making myself more top heavy, or changing the integrity of my hard top. I have been avoiding putting a roof rack on my Jeep for eight years. I own a 2010 Two Door Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, and every month or two I buy something for it to try and make my overlanding experiences a bit more enjoyable. There’s only one opinion in this write up, and that’s my own. I have been very diligent in my career to ensure I do no cross any ethical lines so I have paid for this product myself and also installed it myself. Let’s jump into this, my first review of an accessory that I’ve installed on my own Jeep.
